Get prepared to have the best Summer Road Trip Experience!

Summer is a great time for going on road trips and doing fun things. The main part of the road trip is your vehicle. You want to make sure your ride is in good shape before hitting the road. Take a look at the tips below.

·         Schedule a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy and produce the lowest level of emissions.

·         Check the brake system and make sure the battery connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free.

·         Check filters and fluids, including engine oil, antifreeze/coolant, windshield washer and power steering, brake and transmission fluids. Dirty air filters can waste gas and cause the engine to lose power.

·         Check the hoses and belts and replace if they become cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or show signs of excessive wear. These are critical to the proper functioning of the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and the cooling system.

·         Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Underinflated tires reduce a vehicle’s fuel economy and uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.

·         Check that the gas cap is not damaged, loose or missing to prevent gas from spilling or evaporating.

You can always take your vehicle to Concord Kia or Concord Mitsubishi and we will do all the hard work for you. Schedule your service today.

Mitsubishi Spotlight! The Lancers of The Fast and Furious.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift': 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX

Mitsubishi works its engineering magic by starting with the Lancer sedan, a nimble economy car. Fitted with a turbocharged inline-4, stiffer suspension and all-wheel-drive, the Lancer is transformed into a sports car with vicious levels of power and grip. The Evo has scored numerous victories and championships in international rallying, so it has plenty of street cred. How seriously does Mitsubishi take this performance car? Back in 2004, the Lancer Evolution went through a crash course diet to eliminate weight. The RS edition came from the factory without sound-deadening, a trunk liner, aerodynamic -aids like front and rear spoilers, and even the most basic AM/FM radio. The side mirrors and door handles on the RS came unpainted. Why? To save the weight that painting them might have added, of course!

2 Fast 2 Furious: 2001 Mitsubishi Evolution EVO

This 2001 Lancer is being sold by Desert Autosport, via eBay Motors and looks the part of the movie car, complete with the aftermarket front fascia and headlights, blue under-glow, and the fixed rear wing. There are only 844 miles on the odometer.
Upon closer inspection we see that the driver’s side door frame has a label that says “2nd Unit Principal,” which suggests that this was the vehicle used for B-roll (a cinema term for any footage that does not require the actors). Also, the car was fitted with “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Driver: Paul Walker” graphics, suggesting that this vehicle may have likely done some promotional duty following filming.

Go Behind the Story of the Kia Hamsters.

Soon after the vehicle's release, Kia launched a series of commercials as part of their "A new way to roll" campaign. The ads, created by Los Angeles-based ad agency David&Goliath, features (a combination of motion-captured and costumed) hamsters on stationary Hamster wheels on city streets, which are then all passed by "cooler" hamsters riding in the Kia Soul. The commercials have attracted a cult following and have surged in popularity on video-sharing sites like YouTube. The commercials were awarded "Automotive Ad of the Year" at the Nielsen Automotive Advertising Awards.
Songs featured in the ads include "Do What You Do" by Marz, "Fort Knox" by Goldfish, "Junkyard" by The Potbelleez, "Colours" by Calvin Harris, "The Choice Is Yours (Revisited)" by Black Sheep and, during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO.
For the 2013 Kia Soul commercial, the song played is "In My Mind (Axwell Remix)" by Ivan Gough and Feenixpawl featuring Georgi Kay. The hamsters were seen rocking out at a 18th century opera house to the song. It was released on August 30, 2012.
In October 2011, the Kia Soul Hamsters were inducted into the Madison Avenue Walk of Fame, advertising industry’s equivalent of Hollywood and Vine. As of 2011, Kia is also the only car manufacturer to be inducted.

Extreme Summer Heat Can Burn Up Car Batteries.

Summer’s extreme temperatures can destroy a vehicle’s battery. The Car Care Council advises vehicle owners to have their cars’ batteries tested periodically and replaced, if necessary, to avoid being stranded.
Excessive heat and overcharging shortens the life of a battery. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, which then damages the internal structure of the battery. A malfunctioning component in the charging system, usually the voltage regulator, allows too high a charging rate, which will eventually destroy a battery.
“When most motorists think of dead batteries that cause starting failure, they think of severe winter weather, but summer heat is the real culprit,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “Many battery problems start long before the temperatures drop. A few simple steps now can help you avoid the cost and inconvenience of a breakdown later.”
To get the most life out of a battery, the Car Care Council suggests the following:
• Be sure the electrical system is charging at the correct rate; overcharging can damage a battery as quickly as undercharging.
• If your battery is the type that needs to be topped off, check it regularly, especially in hot weather. Add distilled water when necessary.
• Always replace a battery with one that’s rated at least as high as the one originally specified.
• Keep the top of the battery clean. Dirt becomes a conductor, which drains battery power. Further, as corrosion accumulates on battery terminals it becomes an insulator, inhibiting current flow.
